Blake Shelton’s impressive three-season winning streak came to an end during Season 5 on The Voice but, one has to wonder whether it was the loss in general that was most painful, or the fact that he lost it to frienemy coach Adam Levine.

The two exchange (mostly) good-natured barbs on the regular, and it was easy to see Adam was getting downright sick and tired of his buddy winning. As he joked on the show this past season, “Don’t look at the dimples! Do not make direct eye contact!”

Ironically, though, one now has to wonder whether People magazine naming Adam the  “Sexiest Man Alive” in 2013 may have played a factor in the win. We voters are an easily swayed bunch and, although the winner is chosen by us, there is no denying these coaches have quite an influence.

During those first few weeks after he scored the highly coveted title, he was pretty much everywhere you looked. It was hard to turn on the tube and not to see that pretty — if a little scruffy — mug. He was on billboards. On buses. On late night television. He even jokingly “accepted” the award on Jimmy Kimmel Live, thanking Ryan Gosling for repeatedly turning down the title. He was ubiquitous.

It’s possible that this constant barrage of Adam images played a part in our voting, whether it was a conscious thing or not.

On the other hand, Adam was getting a lot of exposure even before landing the prestigious People cover, what with a successful music career as Maroon 5 frontman and landing an engagement to a smokin’ hot Victoria’s Secret model. And, in the end, Tessanne Chin is a simply amazing singer who may have even won under the tutelage of one of the other coaches. So there are plenty of factors to consider. But we think it could be filed under “things that make you go hmmm …”

What do you think –– did Adam Levine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” status help him to win on The Voice? Sound off!
