We’ve got some tragic news for the Voice family. A former contestant from The Voice Mexico was found murdered over the weekend after an armed kidnapping.

Gibran David Martinez Diaz was found in the Gulf Coast state of Veracruz after having gone missing on January 7, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The 22-year-old was kidnapped from his home in Veracruz on January 7 by armed gunmen who were dressed as police officers. In a gruesome turn of events, Gibran’s corpse — as well as the body of an unidentified minor — were discovered late Saturday at the scene of a shootout between the suspected kidnappers and law enforcement.

Both suspects died in the shootout, while investigators confirmed Gibran and the minor died prior to the situation.

Gibran competed on the third season of The Voice Mexico (aka La Voz Mexico), and his coaches from the show, Puerto Rican reggaeton duo Wisin & Yandel, has spoken out about the tragic news.

“Our most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and fans of Gibran,” the duo tweeted. “May God keep you in his glory.”

And in sadder news, THR confirms that this is the second catastrophe to strike former contestants of The Voice Mexico in just over a year. Back in December 2012, Jenni Rivera, a coach for The Voice Mexico’s second season, died in a plane crash.

Our thoughts are with everyone connected to this tragedy.
