Blake Shelton is a little bit country, while his previous mentors have been a little bit rock and roll (and other genres). News has just broken, however, that The Voice judge is going straight-up country this season when it comes to his mentors. According to E! Online, Blake has tapped country band of the hour The Band Perry to advise his team members for Season 6, which premieres Monday, February 24.

After his three-season winning streak was broken this past season by frenemy coach Adam Levine, Blake isn’t pulling any punches. The Band Perry is up for Vocal Group of the Year at the 2014 ACM Awards, which are being hosted by Blake and his fellow country star Luke Bryan.

Blake’s past mentors have included Sheryl Crow, Kelly Clarkson, Cher, and Michael Buble, who are interesting choices for a country star. The coaches likely try to round out their skill sets by having mentors of varying genres of music. Case in point is the fact that Shakira has landed Blake’s wife, Miranda Lambert, as her mentor this season. Watching Miranda team up with Blake’s competition is just one of the many reasons we think this season is going to be one to watch.

Blake’s past two winners — Cassadee Pope and Danielle Bradbery — are both country artists, so perhaps he’s going back to what he considers to be a sure thing.
