Tessanne Chin definitely earned her win on The Voice last December, don’t get us wrong, but didn’t even just a little part of you wish that Jacquie Lee would have taken the crown? The 16-year-old songstress with killer pipes stole the show from day one of the live performances, and she just kept getting better and better. Now that’s the sign of a real artist!

Nearly two months after Jacquie finished out Season 5 as runner-up, she’s already hard at work on her first album. (Seriously, how many teens have that kind of work ethic?) Wetpaint Entertainment spoke with the New Jersey-native exclusively at the Heart Truth Red Dress Collection runway show for New York Fashion Week on February 6 (where she was sitting front-row right next to Gwyneth Paltrow’s bestie, Tracy Anderson).

“Right now, I’m just working on my music and trying to use my momentum in a positive way,” Jacquie told us about what she’s been up to since the show ended on December 17, 2013. Definitely good to strike while the iron is hot — we just hope she took a break, too!

As to what sort of musical direction Christina’s protege would like to go in, it’s right on track with the old-soul type choices the teen went with during her time on the show. “Definitely lR&B slash soul music,” Jacquie details. Though don’t worry, she’s not going to be veering into sappy ballad territory anytime soon. “But something really current,” she adds. “I’m really excited to work on it.”

And when we pried about which other artists she was hoping to collaborate with for the project, she had only one name in mind: “Ed Sheeran, for sure!” (If you remember, Ed was a mentor of Christina’s on Jacquie’s season.) “Fingers crossed. I’m a big Ed Sheeran fan!” Who isn’t these days?

Fans of Jacquie will unfortunately have to wait a while before they can see her live — though it will be happening, we’re told. “Look out during the summer!” she teased. Everyone set your Google alerts!
