On March 17, Team Adam Levine singers Kat Perkins and Patrick Thomson belted out a duet to “Whenever I Call You ‘Friend’” by Stevie Nicks and Kenny Loggins. Adam paired the singers together because he thought it would be great to pair the two powerhouse vocalists.

During rehearsals, Kat became slightly intimidated by Patrick’s soothing voice, but ultimately felt that they would be neck and neck. Both Adam and his mentor, Aloe Blacc, felt that Patrick held back in fear of not hitting his notes correctly and advised the him to go for it so they would know what they needed to improve on. As for Kat, Adam told the rocker that her powerful vocals didn’t always “have to be on 12,” and Kat immediately understood the challenge it would be to work on her dynamics.

On the final night of rehearsals, Adam congratulated Patrick on his improvements, but noted that there was still work to be done. Kat, on the other hand, was told by Aloe that she needed to work on keeping her eyes open during their performance.

Both Patrick and Kat took the stage on the night of the battle, and Blake Shelton thought the pairing was interesting and worked. However, for Blake, the tie-breaker came when he heard the ease Kat had with her large notes, as opposed to Patrick who belted his notes with a more gravelly texture.Usher agreed with Blake that Kat’s large notes were better, while Shakira loved the dynamics of both vocalists and decided to go with Patrick.

Adam thought that both artists were great, with Patrick making leaps and bounds since rehearsals and Kat being animated across the stage. Adam declared Kat the winner of the battle, but Shakira decided to snatch Patrick for her team.
