On March 25, Team Adam Levine singers Cary Laine and Sam Behymer belted out a duet to “Give Me Love” by Ed Sheeran. We can’t think of a pairing more unlikely thus far this season, but Coach Adam Levine felt the ballad would allow their very different styles to meet somewhere in the middle.

While Cary was intimidated by the uniqueness of Sam’s tone, the alternative singer from Morgan Mill, Texas was bowled over by the power in her country counterpart’s vocals. Coach Adam and his guest mentor Aloe Blacc advised Sam to rein in some of her vocal quirks, which she admits she tends to use as a crutch. From Cary, they asked to see more emotion come through in her performance.

Despite their very different sounds, Cary and Sam’s voices blended really well on the Ed Sheeran love song. Blake felt both singers did really well, though he felt there were some pitch issues. He and Usher both agree that it would come down to a matter of taste, since they were equally strong. Shakira said they both had strong points.

Poor Adam had absolutely no help at all from his fellow coaches, so he made his decision based on who spoke to him most in the moment. In the end, he saw more potential in his partnership with Sam. Unfortunately for Cary, with only one more steal left on the table, she was sent home.
