On March 31, Team Blake Shelton vocalists Jake Worthington and Tess Boyer belted out a duet to “Have a Little Faith In Me” by John Hiatt. Blake called the battle, “the battle of second chances” between country crooner Jake and pop gal Tess. After pairing the two, Blake sent the duo off with a selection of songs to work from. Tess and Jake both chose “Have a Little Faith In Me” to showcase both Tess’s pop vocals and Jake’s country twang.

During rehearsals, both Blake and mentor Chris Martin thought that the pair were great, aside from two pitch problems. After taking a few notes from Blake and Chris, Jake and Tess were able to give a performance that Blake enjoyed.

On the night of the battle, Usher mentioned the pride he had for former Team Usher contestant Tess’s growth under Blake’s tutelage. Usher also noted that Jake was becoming a strong favorite and powerful contender. Shakira thought that Jake was wonderful as usual, but noted that Tess’s voice was just amazing, beautiful, and sweet. Adam Levine thought that both artists did a great job with the performance and felt that Blake was up for a hard decision. Blake congratulated the two for doing the song justice, with Jake making the song believable and Tess for showing just how amazing her vocals truly are. After an agonizing deliberation, Blake gave the battle to Jake. But it wouldn’t be the end of the road for Tess — with Shakira, Usher, and Adam Levine offering up their one steal to keep Tess in the game. After all three coaches made their pitches, Tess chose to join Team Shakira.
