Jake Barker and Brittnee Camelle Sing “Climax” by Usher

On April 7, Team Adam Levine pop singers Jake Barker and Brittnee Camelle belted out a duet to “Climax” by Usher. Adam chose to pair his two steals from Team Usher together hoping that this battle will give him the opportunity to learn more about them. While reviewing their previous battles, Brittnee was told to be a little conservative with her sound to keep from falling flat and Jake was told to rangle in his embellishments, which can sometimes go all over the place.

Adam thought the song choice was great and would give each vocalist a chance to showcase their talents. Mentor Chris Martin told the duo to become more comfortable with the song, shake their nerves, and allow to song to flow through them naturally. Adam, felt that Jake’s confidence level wasn’t where it should be and even physically pushed the former bartender towards his competitor in an attempt to make him less shy!

Finally, the night of battles arrived and the twosome took the stage with their former coach’s sexy song. Blake Shelton felt that Jake did a great job of maintaining his signature gravelly sound in his falsetto, while coach Usher was happy that the two picked the song. When Usher was asked who sang it best, he said himself, but said he couldn’t make a decision because they were both great. Shakira noted that Britnee’s voice has the ability to cut through which was great, but Jake surprised her and embraced the challenge. Finally, Adam said that Brittnee’s voice indeed cuts sharply, but he was also impressed by Jake’s solid performance despite being a novice. When it was time to choose a winner, Adam went with Jake.
