UPDATE (4:30 p.m. PT): Well, it's official! Gwen Stefani will be the newest coach to take up the red swivel chair on The Voice NBC confirmed the decision, which has been rumored for weeks, via Twitter on April 29. "So this is happening... WELCOME @gwenstefani to #TheVoice family everyone!" the show's official Twitter proclaimed.
The news was also announced by Adam Levine, fellow newcomer Pharrell Williams, Carson Daly... and even Gwen herself.
ORIGINAL STORY (11:45 a.m. PT): There’s been plenty of rumor and speculation that Gwen Stefani would be the platinum blonde in residence on The Voice when it returns for a seventh season this fall. And while no formal announcement has been made confirming a final agreement was reached, veteran coach Christina Aguilera is certainly giving her blessing.
“So excited to have you join #TheVoice squad @GwenStefani!” Christina tweeted on April 28. “Welcome to our crazy fam! Kisses- xoxo #blondesdoitbest,” she added. Whether Xtina knows something we don’t or she’s just been following all the buzz about the coaching roster for next season is an unknown, but it’s good to hear the No Doubt singer has the Aguilera seal of Approval!
Last week, E! reporters cross-examined coaches Blake Shelton and Adam Levine on whether there was any truth to the rumors about Gwen. Though the two bromancing musicians were careful to verbally dance around the question, they did make it known the choice would be more than OK with them.
“If there is such a person in this world named Gwen Stefani,” Blake hedged, “I think she would probably be a great addition to this show.” Well, sounds like her predecessor agrees. Make it happen, NBC!
