On May 5, Team Adam Levine singer Delvin Choice gave a rousing performance of “I Believe I Can Fly” by R. Kelly.
Adam wants his mentee to find the right hit at the right time of the show, and he believes that it might just happen with this 90s-era ballad, especially since it brings out such powerful feelings in him. The one challenge he faces is making sure he can keep the groove and not let his emotions overtake the vocal. The former barista definitely struck the right balance during his live performance, earning a standing ovation from his coach and the audience.
Blake praised Del’s soulful rendition, calling the song choice perfect — and also seizing yet another opportunity to make a joke about his coach’s hair by comparing him to exercise guru Susan Powter. Usher remarked that you haven’t seen a man fly until you’ve seen him cry, and appreciated the conviction in Delvin’s performance. Adam expressed pride in his mentee’s confidence and growth as an artist, declaring that no matter what happens tomorrow, he feels they’ve won because of the strength of that performance.
