The Voice Season 3 is filled with amazing contestants, but one of our favorites didn't make the cut. On the Nov. 27 episode, soulful Southern singer Cody Belew was given the boot, and we're having a little trouble controlling our emotions.
The Team Cee Lo contestant sometimes seemed like he belongs in the ‘80s, but we still think America needs a throwback. Here are five reasons Cody should have won The Voice:
5. He’s sexy and he knows it!
This gorgeous guy knows how to make everyone swoon. He mixes up the rugged (hello, beard!) look with adorable looks, basically creating the perfect combination. But our favorite part about him? His amazing smile. He lights up the stage, and in turn, the world like nobody else — but he does know he’s beautiful.
4. He’s very relatable.
This Arkansas native was overjoyed, exploding into expletives, when Cee Lo Green picked him during the blind auditions. He’s confident, but not cocky, and his smooth, Southern drawl stands out from the many New Yorkers in the competition. He represents a part of the country that is mostly known for country music, yet he doesn’t just sing honky tonk tunes. In fact, he doesn’t stick to one genre at all ...
3. He’s incredibly unique.
Even though he sometimes sounds like an ‘80s singer, Cody didn't let himself get pigeonholed. He jumped from genre to genre, tackling powerful tunes like Tina Turner’s “The Best,” Dolly Parton classics like “Jolene,” and even pop hits like Lady Gaga’s “Telephone.” This guy is not a one-trick pony, and his twists on familiar songs helped him emerge as a front runner this season. We think this unique style could propell him into a life of fame and glory.
2. His hips don’t lie — aka he’s basically Elvis’s second coming.
We know, we know — we already talked about how sexy he is. But when Cody danced on stage — ahem, brings the “bam bam” — we secretly fainted at home. He knows how to move, which we saw showcased in his fun rendition of Bee Gees’ “Stayin’ Alive” with his coach, Cee Lo, and the rest of his team. We bet his killer moves will really take him places — perhaps opening for Beyonce on her next tour? He did choreograph quite a dance to "Crazy in Love," after all!
1. His performances are always consistent and exciting.
Cody never falters on stage, delivering incredible performances every week. He commanded the Voice stage, able to pump up the crowd during both fast-paced songs and slow jams. He hits notes that we couldn’t even imagine — even George Michael and Freddie Mercury! — and is consistently stellar at ad-libbing innovative notes and melodies. All of the coaches sang his praises, calling him “brilliant” and an “amazing performer,” and we couldn’t agree more.
