The Voice is often praised for being musicians’ “second chance.” It allows almost anyone to audition, even those who have had previous record deals or who are well-known from other reality competition shows.

But what happens when a lesser-known contestant is pitted against one of these standouts? That was the case in battle round between former Disney recording artist Jordan Pruitt and singer Adriana Louise from Team Christina.

Though the battle was evenly matched, Adriana was surprised to beat out her competitor.

“When I first found out we were paired, I was really intimidated, I was scared,” the singer told Wetpaint Entertainment today. “I realized, I’m not going to win this battle without taking some risks. I think me being a risk taker is really what won me that battle. I was surprised by the win! I was very happy about it. It could have gone either way, to tell you the truth.”

The girls were in a tough position, knowing that their own coach was the only one with a steal left.

“We did actually know,” Adriana revealed. “We were backstage hearing that final steal being taken and, yeah, that was rough. We gave eachother a high five and said, ‘Let’s just go out there and kill it.’ And I think we did.”
