When Team Blake contestant Jermaine Paul was introduced on The Voice, the show mentioned the musician’s history as a backup singer for R&B artist Alicia Keys.

Though Alicia never made an appearance on the show, she did send Jermaine a good luck video message and has actively supported him on Twitter.

When he was crowned “The Voice” on Tuesday night, Jermaine’s former boss was ecstatic.

“She called me onstage,” Jermaine told Us Weekly. “She was screaming at the top of lungs. She made me feel like a million bucks.”

But Alicia wasn’t the only one celebrating. Jermaine’s coach Blake Shelton was an unlikely fit at first, but the two singers soon formed a close and respected friendship.

“[He was as] happy as Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and Ronald McDonald in one!” Jermaine said. “He was like, ‘I told ya, buddy.’ It was crazy.”

We’re sure Jermaine’s enjoying the spotlight after so many years of singing back-up. Are you excited that he’s the Season 2 winner? Comment below!
