The Voice Season 4 premieres tonight (March 25), and in addition to this season’s incredible talent, we’re also excited to see the new dynamic between the coaches. Returning coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton will welcome newbies Usher and Shakira into the fold this spring, and it’s sure to be a hilarious affair.
In a recent interview with People Magazine, Blake talked about the process and some of the things he’s struggled with while sitting in his big red chair this season.
“I definitely pay more attention to Shakira just because I stare at her a lot,” Blake admitted. “But Usher, he stepped into this thing having basically won The Voice already. He discovered and worked with and mentored Justin Bieber. We’re all going, ‘Oh crap, this isn’t fair.’ He already did it once and it drives me crazy. It drives me up the wall. That’s one of the reasons why I stare at Shakira so much and look past him.”
Sure Blake, that’s why you stare at Shakira!
But Blake’s jealousy towards Usher is definitely valid. We know for a fact that Usher plays the “Justin Bieber Card” in the premiere episode when trying to woo a contestant onto his team.
The R&B superstar is confident in his ability to work with upcoming artists, but he also loves his new job.
“It’s really incredible when your work is this fun,” Usher said. “I’ve always loved to mentor talent, I’ve always loved to mentor people.”
