There is still more than a month until the holiday season, but The Voice’s Blake Shelton is getting into the Christmas spirit early.
In addition to his recently-released album, Cheers it’s Christmas, the country crooner is stepping out of the box and hosting a TV special! Access Hollywood caught up with him to discuss the new project — particularly the title, Blake Shelton's Not-So-Family Christmas.
“We had different titles we were kicking around. One of them was Not Your Grandma’s Christmas, and there were several different ones,” he spilled.
And for Blake, that was the only way to do it. He didn’t just want to sing — he wanted to flex his comedic muscles!
“They were all alluding to the fact that your kids really probably shouldn’t be seeing this one, but that’s the only way I knew how to do it if we were going to have any sort of comedy,” he continued. “I mean, we could just do a concert, but man, I wanted to try my hand at some skits and making an idiot of myself like I always do and just take it to a new level.”
It sounds like Blake might be itching to get into the acting business like his bro, Adam Levine. But most of all, the country singer wanted to show that stigmas about his genre aren’t true.
“We definitely pushed the boundaries as far as we could,” he added. “I think people who have an expectation about country music artists are really gonna be surprised because this definitely doesn’t fit any mold.”
The special also features Blake's mom, Dorothy, Reba McEntire, Jay Leno, Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera, Larry the Cable Guy, and of course, his wife, Miranda Lambert! They are all connected to him in some way, and he had a mission in mind when putting the show together.
“Christmas is a celebration of all the people in your life and bringing them close,” he concluded. And we can’t wait to celebrate the holidays right there with him!
