At tonight’s 40th Annual American Music Awards, Christina Aguilera was looking to make a lasting impression and show off her new music. Spoiler Alert! She did both.

The Voice coach took the stage by storm, emerging from a “lotus flower” made of backup dancers and cascading down to a stage full of “misfits.”

Xtina packed the stage with a gaggle of dancers with bags over their heads showing terms of hate like “Freak” and “Loser.” When these outsiders were unveiled, they turned out to be a variety of characters from drag queens to men with some particularly impressive beards.

The messages soon turned to ones of love, as Christina transitioned from her songs “Lotus” to “Army of Me” to “Let There Be Love.” The diva proved she’s still got some impressive pipes and wasn’t afraid to show them off.

Also making a guest appearance were Xtina’s “girls,” as she strutted around the stage in a daring one-piece black sequin-covered ensemble with a trailing skirt.
