In Monday night’s battle round performance on The Voice Season 3, Team Blake contestants Julio Cesar Castillo and Terisa Griffin went head to head on Gloria Estefan’s “Conga.”

But 42-year-old soul singer Terisa shocked mentor Michael Buble when she admitted that she thought Blake had picked the song in order to send her home. You could attribute Terisa’s statements to nerves, but we decided to see what she had to say about it when Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with the singer after the battle.

We soon learned that the contestants have had little-to-no say in their own song selections thus far.

“Initially we were asked to write a list of songs,” Terisa said. “But we don’t get to pick anything, really. Maybe as we advance, we’ll get to pick more.”

In her episode, it was clear that Terisa was feeling slightly resentful over this decision, but looking back, she viewed it as a great opportunity.

“That’s where you kind of learn how to be more versatile, definitely as an artist, as a performer,” she admitted. “When you’re used to doing your own stuff, you get in your comfort zone. As working musicians, you really need to be able to step out of your comfort zone to be able to work in this business.”

We’re glad the former Team Blake contestant has taken such a positive outlook on the situation, and we hope to see her rock the stage again — this time on Team Cee Lo. The exotic pet owner snagged the diva after Blake declared Julio the winner.

What do you think of the contestants’ lack of involvement in the song selection? Weigh in below!
