UPDATE: It was recently announced that Christina Aguilera will take a leave of absence from the spring cycle at which time Colombian singer Shakira will take over. Usher is also replacing Cee Lo Green.
Pop diva Christina Aguilera is a fighter, and it looks like she’s set on fighting for her career after this fall season of The Voice.
In a recent interview with Billboard, the singer talked about the show’s effect on her music career.
“[The Voice] kept me away from my heart, which is creating my own music,” Christina said. “It’s been a joy to be a part of other people’s journey, to be able to inspire and be a part of new singers coming up in this business ... but I was starting to get really worried and concerned that I wouldn’t have the time to go and be an artist again.”
There have been no signs or official statements that Xtina won’t be returning in 2013, but show executive Mark Burnett has already admitted that NBC has a back-up plan for next season if the celebrity coaches can’t continue.
According to TV Guide, “Burnett says he would like to keep Aguilera, Levine, Shelton, and Green on board as the show’s core coaches, with the idea that they’ll all have to miss some seasons and be replaced with temp stars.”
Christina’s fellow judge Blake Shelton has also been very vocal about the negative impact the show’s had on his career saying, “I don’t know how long I can stand it.”
We hope Christina doesn’t have to go, but we always love hearing her new music! Would you watch The Voice without Xtina? Tell us below!
