On last night’s live results show on The Voice, we were sad to see Team Adam’s Melanie Martinez — and her adorable hair bows — leave the stage. The eclectic singer brought her own style and signature sound to the show and was the youngest contestant to make it to the Top 6.
When Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with Melanie on the red carpet following the results show, she was happy to talk about her life-changing experience on Team Adam, and even predicted the Season 3 winner!
Wetpaint Entertainment: Do you feel that you accomplished everything you wanted to do on The Voice?
Melanie Martinez: Absolutely! My whole goal was to touch people’s hearts through the interpretations that I did of the covers I had to — because obviously we couldn’t do our own music. I definitely wanted to sing each song as if I wrote it, and I think I’ve done that. I’m just really proud of myself for being the only minor who’s made it this far in a competition like this — well, this show — and I’m happy that I get to represent indie folk artists. I’m really excited.
Are you excited to be able to go home now and do your own songs? It’s probably fun to sing the covers, but after a certain point, you’re ready for your songs?
Yeah. I’m really excited to put out my own music and just continuing to write and be myself.
The world saw more of you on The Voice with your photography, and you had some input in the set design. Are you going to continue with all that going forward?
Yeah, absolutely. Photography is always dear to my heart. It’s definitely in the same line with my music, and I’m just excited to collectively bring all my emotions out and use it through my song writing and my photography and show people what I’m feeling.
Now that you’re off the show, are you going to be rooting for anyone?
Yes. I’m rooting for all four of them, but I’m going to have to say I really, really hope that the only lady left, Cassadee Pope, is going to take it all.
Why is that?
She’s amazing, and I think she’s a perfect example of staying true to who you are, because she has definitely always been into pop rock. She’s definitely going to stay there, and I believe that she’s definitely going to win.
What did you and Adam talk about when you got off stage?
He just kept telling me that he’s not worried about me, I’m going to keep moving on, everything happens for a reason, and to just stay true to who I am.
Did you ever get used to watching yourself on TV each week?
No. It’s a surreal moment watching yourself on that screen and you’re like, “Oh no!” It’s so weird. I don’t know. I mean, it’s also really exciting, but we are also our worst critics, so I’m always looking into every little bad note and all that. I’m happy and relieved that I don’t have to do that anymore.
