We’re less than a week away from the The Voice 2013, and a crop of new contestants aren’t the only new faces on Season 4 — R&B superstar Usher and saucy Colombian singer Shakira are taking their seats in the red chairs, replacing OG coaches Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green.

Wetpaint Entertainment picked Season 2 Team Cee Lo mentor Ne-Yo’s brain at the Prabal Gurung for Target launch at New York Fashion Week on Feb. 6 to see how the newbies will fit in, if they can fill the sparkly shoes of their predecessors, and if he has any advice for the new batch of battle round advisers.

Wetpaint Entertainment: Now that Usher and Shakira are stepping in, how do you think they’ll be as coaches?

Ne-Yo: I feel like both have them have been in the business long enough to definitely have some good advice to give to somebody on their way up, so I feel like it’s a good fit — I feel like it’s going to be a good fit!

Do you think they’ll be good replacements for Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green?

Umm, I don’t know! It’s hard to replace the original anything, and the show started with Christina and Cee Lo, so they [Shakira and Usher] definitely have their work cut out for them. They’ve gotta go in there and make people forget about Christina and Cee Lo, which isn’t going to be easy, but I feel like if anyone can do it, it’s those two.

Do you have any advice for the new mentors?

Just be honest! You’re not helping these kids by lying to them — just be honest about the whole thing. Just be brutally, painfully honest.
