On May 8 Adam Levine gave us a minor heart attack on The Voice 2013 when he waited until literally the last second to pick Sarah Simmons to move forward over Caroline Glaser. Like, the credits were rolling, Adam!

And though the results were stressful for viewers at home, Sarah Simmons told Wetpaint Entertainment that she had a feeling that she’d be moving forward. We caught up with Sarah at the Top 12 Party at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, Calif. following the eliminations where she dished about her time on the show thus far.

Wetpaint Entertainment: Congratulations on making it to the Top 12. Are you shocked? Did you feel like it was going to happen?

Sarah Simmons: I felt it in my gut. I did, but honestly at the same time every single one of us as women, you know you get four women together on a team and spend so much time together and work really hard so you better believe that they're going to get really close so that was really hard every single one of us got really close as friends and it was just really bittersweet, really, really bittersweet but honestly every single one of those women… All three of those women are incredibly talented! They are also versatile and also different so we really didn't have any idea. We really didn't. I'm so grateful to be here.

So what's it like working with Adam Levine? What can you tell us about him?

Adam is an incredible coach, and I'm so glad that I picked him. I really am, and that he chose me! As a person and as a coach he's extremely genuine. He is really, really genuine. Something that I respect him for the most is his honesty. People can encourage you but sometimes they sugarcoat so much that you lose the truth in what they are saying and the honestly that they are giving and advice, and he gives the honest opinions and advice but he always follows that with encouragement for sure. I feel like that really is what stretches me and that really is the challenges me and I can't wait to continue with it.

And what is your strategy going forward? What are you gonna do now that America is going to be voting for you in the weeks going forward?

I just hope that they continue to see my heart and continue to see my talent. I'm excited for next week because I'm bringing a more rocker song so I’m excited to show them a different side of me. I've been apparently making people cry, I’m like, I'm really sorry!

So you’d like a change? Maybe go from making them cry to making them dance?

Yes. I would love to make them dance. That would be good.
