Just when we finally had a handle on the ins and outs of The Voice Season 3, NBC threw us another curveball.

In addition to the new knockout rounds, which kick off on this Monday’s episode, the hit singing competition show is adding a new twist: the playoffs!

According to a press release, during election week, a new live phase of the competition will hit our screens, and it will be the first time that audiences can vote for their favorite artists.

Paul Telegdy, president of Alternative and Late Night Programming at NBC, announced that “audiences will see yet another twist for this cycle as they get a democratic opportunity to determine the top two singers from each team that will be safe.” And additionally, “the coaches get to choose one artist of their own from their teams to continue into the next week.”

Five artists per team will perform over the special three-night event that week, with two-hour performances on Monday, Nov. 5 and Wednesday, Nov. 7, and the playoffs results show on Thursday, Nov. 8, which will reveal the Top 12 artists.

Ultimately, two of the artists will be chosen by viewers at home and the coaches will choose one final singer to round out their team. We couldn’t be more excited for this new twist!

What do you think of the new “playoffs”? Weigh in below!
