Now we know why Simon Cowell raised such a stink over The Voice’s extended premiere week he was afraid.

Last night, our favorite music reality show directly competed with the Brit’s show premiere and his new pop diva, Britney Spears. But it seems no amount of harsh bashing or crossdressing contestants could convince audiences to turn off The Voice between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. ET.

NBC scored the most viewers with 10.7 million to Fox’s 7.5 million during their shared hour of airtime.

Simon claimed that NBC extended its premiere week because word got around that the first episode of The X Factor was fantastic. But in the words of Blake Shelton, there’s plenty of room on television for both shows! And next week The Voice will return solely to Monday and Tuesday nights.

And if Mr. Cowell is looking for the root of his X Factor-related problems, he might want to revisit the incredibly uncomfortable audition below.
