The Voice Mentor Lionel Richie Drops Duets, John Legend Takes Over
As The Voice prepares to come to a close, ABC’s competing music show Duets is gearing up for its first season.
The original cast starred three Voice mentors, Kelly Clarkson, Robin Thicke, and Lionel Richie, as well as Jennifer Nettles from Sugarland, and the show promised to change the format of today’s music competitions.
But last week, Lionel announced via Twitter that he would no longer be on the show.
“Due to a scheduling conflict, I am unable to take part in ABC’s 'Duets' show. I wish I could be in two places at once!” he tweeted on April 30.
That tweet was quickly followed by, “Please warmly welcome @johnlegend to the 'Duets' series. He will be amazing.”
The show is set to premiere on Thursday, May 24 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. What do you think of this recent casting change? Comment below!
