Last night we saw the good, the bad, and the totally not fair! We’re still reeling from the loss of six strong contestants and totally excited that the battle rounds have begun.

The first performance of the night came from Team Adam. Contestants Chris Cauley and Tony Lucca set the bar high when they came out strong on U2’s “Beautiful Day.” Both contestants had impressive vocals, but Tony’s seasoned performance impressed judge Adam Levine, and he is now set for the live shows.

Up next was Team Blake. Country singers Adley Stump and RaeLynn sang Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin.’ “ Though the song was strong, it provided some controversy when Blake picked 17-year-old RaeLynn over Adley after most of the judges seemed to side with the latter.

Leaving behind the country craze, we then saw Team Christina’s trained vocalist Chris Mann go up against emotional singer Monique Benabou. The two gave a beautiful performance full of passion, but Christina sided with Chris’s professional training.

As we had seen in previews, Cheesa and Angie Johnson from Team Cee Lo went up against each other singing “Total Eclipse of the Heart.” Though both girls rocked the performance, it was the staff sergeant who went home without any medals.

Selecting a song from one of the show’s celebrity mentors, Alanis Morissette, Jordis Unga and Brian Fuente battled to move on to the next round. The song wasn’t the best pick for either contestant, which provided the worst performance of the night. Jordis moved on, but we’re not sure either contestant deserved to go to the live shows after that one.

Coincidentally the best performance of the night was...

... also the last one. Christina pitted the two preachers sons against each other — Jesse Campbell and Anthony Evans. Yes, it provided us with fantastic entertainment, but it made Christina’s decision to eliminate Anthony Evans so bittersweet.
