The battle rounds are on and each of the judges is working hard to bring their best six contestants to the live shows. This week saw a host of strong pairings, upsets, intense chemistry, and nerves.
The contestants weren’t comfortable being pitted against each other, especially since most of them had become friends. But this is a competition, and just like the first day on a new job, they’re not there to make friends.
So, which teams came out on top this week?
Last week: 2
Team: Lee Koch, Sera Hill, Chris Mann, Jesse Campbell, Lindsey Pavao,THE LiNE, Geoff McBride, Moses Stone,
Anthony Evans, Ashley De La Rosa, Jonathas, Monique Benabou
Team Christina had two stellar performances this week — one between Monique Benabou and Chris Mann, and the other between preachers’ sons Anthony Evans and Jesse Campbell. Monique and Chris’s performance was passionate and entrancing, while Anthony and Jesse took the house down in the strongest performance of the night.
The only point against Christina? She had to lose Anthony, who after a shaky blind audition really proved himself in the battle rounds.
Last week: 1
Team: Whitney Myer, Orlando Napier, Tony Lucca, Kim Yarbough, Angel Taylor, Pip,
Chris Cauley,Katrina Parker, Nathan Perrett, Karla Davis,Mathai, Nicolle Galyon
Adam’s team had only one performance last night — Chris Cauley and Tony Lucca singing “Beautiful Day” by U2. It was a great way to start off the battle rounds, and we’re glad Adam picked former Mouseketeer, Tony. Chris had great energy, but he wasn’t quite as strong.
You’ve just got to cut those loose ends, Adam!
CEE LO GREEN
Last week: 3
Team: The Shields Brothers, Cheesa, WADE, Juliet Simms, Jamar Rogers,
Angie Johnson, Sarah Golden, James Massone, Erin Martin, Jamie Lono,Justin Hopkins, Tony Vincent
Like Team Adam, Cee Lo Green’s team had only one performance last night. We were genuinely impressed with both Cheesa and Angie Johnson. Cheesa’s blind audition performance was less than impressive, but she really brought it for the battle rounds.
Both ladies rocked the song, and Cee Lo’s only point against him is that he had to lose the powerful talents of Angie Johnson.
Last week: 4
Team: Lex Land,
Adley Stump, RaeLynn, Jermaine Paul, Gwen Sebastian,Erin Willett, Brian Fuente, Jordis Unga, ALyX, Charlotte Sometimes,Jordan Rager, Naia Kete
Blake, Blake, Blake, where do we begin? After spending last week in fourth place for picking nerve-filled contestant Lex Land, you’ve once again landed behind the rest of the pack. Team Blake had two performances last night, neither of which left us the biggest Blake Shelton fans.
As we’ve already mentioned numerous times, Blake’s decision to pick country singer RaeLynn over Adley Stump was the biggest mistake of the night. Adley’s performance blew us away while RaeLynn’s performance just … well, blew. Though we have major respect for RaeLynn after her blind audition, the battle rounds are supposed to be based on the most recent performance, which Adley owned.
Also from Team Blake was the pairing of Jordis Unga and Brian Fuente. From the start, the song was weak and was clearly not made for a male vocalist. While we like Jordis and thought she did the best she could, Blake seemed to put Brian at a distinct disadvantage with his song selection, and Team Blake lost what could have been another strong contestant.
