The Voice judges Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, and Adam Levine.
Five lucky performers made it past the first round of Blind Auditions on the Season 2 premiere of The Voice last night.
Seventeen-year-old country queen-to-be RaeLynn crooned her way through Pistol Annies’ “Hell on Heels” and got scooped up by Blake Shelton.
Jesse Campbell turned three chairs within the first 10 seconds of his velvety-smooth performance of “A Song for You.”
Denim-vested Juliet Simms channeled Janis and pounded out a heavy version of The Beatles “Oh! Darling” to end up being the first member of Team Cee Lo.
Chris Mann brought a classic vibe to the stage with his stunning rendition of Andrea Bocelli’s “Because We Believe,” impressing his new mentor Christina with his Italian skills.
They were all fantastic and deserving of spots, but one competitor stood above them all:
Tony Lucca! Christina may not have recognized him from her Mouseketeer days at first but she — and we — won’t be making that mistake again. “Trouble” was a great, but challenging choice for the seasoned vet. The song’s original singer, Ray LaMontagne, has a very unique voice, one that’s not easy to duplicate. Thankfully for us, Lucca’s pipes were ideally suited for the slow, folk-rock hit, a detail that probably helped him snag Adam as his coach!
Perfect song choice, perfect execution, and hey, a pretty face doesn’t hurt. (Maybe he and Adam can bond over their lady-killing looks?) It’s no wonder he got the pimp spot at the end of the show.
Will this evening’s competitors live up to the high bar set by last night’s performers? Tune in to the two-hour Part 2 of the premiere on NBC at 8 p.m. ET to find out!
