Christina Aguilera now has someone to wake her up when September ends.

When The Voice returns on September 10, the pop diva will be getting some assistance from this rock legend. Billie Joe Armstrong of the band Green Day will be advising Team Christina in the battle rounds on the show’s third season.

This decision is the final in a series of strange choices — Mary J. Blige for Team Adam Levine, Michael Buble for Team Blake Shelton, and Matchbox 20’s Rob Thomas for Team Cee Lo.

If Billie Joe were to join any team on The Voice the logical pick would have been Team Adam or Team Cee Lo. Adam’s sound has the rocker persona that Billie Joe has perfected since the late ‘80s.

And last season it was Team Cee Lo contestant Tony Vincent who had the Green Day ties after his performance in the musical American Idiot on Broadway.

But this is just another example of NBC mixing things up a bit for the third season. Billie Joe called working with Xtina “a lot of fun,” but we’re still trying to picture to two giving similar coaching advice to contestants.

We can’t wait to see things pairing, and we hope they have the time of their lives.
