Last night’s live show on The Voice Season 3 was filled with out-of-the-box choices, but one contestant stuck to his wheelhouse. Team Cee Lo's Trevin Hunte went back to his blind audition roots, singing "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" from Dreamgirls.

Trevin gave Jennifer Hudson a run for her money with his rendition, displaying impressive vocals from start to finish. It wasn’t just his amazing voice that impressed us, though — his performance was worthy of a Broadway musical. There wasn’t an elaborate set behind him, but as the song built, more elements emerged. He started off in the spotlight alone, but at the peak moment, the lights came up, the curtains parted, and an orchestra was revealed behind him.

The young singer was visibly emotional as he hit every note with incredible vibrato, showcasing such raw emotion that Carson Daly felt a need to immediately embrace Trevin afterward! And of course, this was in addition to Christina and Cee Lo’s standing ovations. At home, we applauded Trevin for keeping this song in his back pocket until the opportune moment — this guy clearly has strategy.

Adam kicked off the commentary last night, saying, “That’s one of the best performances I’ve seen on the show, seriously, maybe ever.” Blake agreed, claiming, “That was like a full two-minute moment right there … that might be the first time I didn't see you ever hold back. That was just full-on Trevin. That was incredible.”

Christina was so floored that she had to fan herself as she spoke. “It’s about an emotion, and when you hit those notes … there’s something about you that’s so magical,” she said, even proposing that she take him “under her wing” on tour if he doesn’t win!

“Ladies and gentlemen, I’d like to have a moment of silence to just mourn the loss of all other competition,” his coach, Cee Lo, said, closing out the comments. “Trevin, oh my God. That was so remarkable, man. Thank you so much. Thank you so much for blessing me today.”
