Last night on The Voice, Cassadee Pope delivered yet another amazing performance. Although we won’t know until the live results show tonight if she hit No. 1 on iTunes again, she definitely hit it out of the park with her rendition of Michelle Branch’s “Are You Happy Now?”

When Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with the rocker on the red carpet after the show, she spilled about her reaction to her big success last week, how she feels about the coaches’ comments, and her transformation from a “lotus flower” to a “black rose” on stage.

Wetpaint Entertainment: Was it nerve-racking to have to perform last today?

Cassadee Pope: Yes! Performing last is no joke. It’s really scary. I just felt a lot of pressure to have the closing of the show be great [since] it has been every single night. I hope I delivered.

You had the number one song on iTunes last week! How did that feel?

That was insane! No. 1 on iTunes was ridiculous. That felt amazing and it was definitely unexpected. I just felt like it was the right time and the right story behind it, and everything just came together. I think the moment itself is what got it to number one, not me just singing the song.

How did you find out? Did you wake up in the morning and check iTunes, or did someone tell you?

Monday night it got to number one and people were texting me and calling me and I was trying to go to sleep because I had to start early the next morning. I was like, “Ahh, I gotta go to bed!” And I was like, “OK, what is everyone saying?” and I just looked and I was like, “Ahh, No. 1! I can’t believe it!” and I had tears in my eyes.

Did you get out of bed and look at the computer?

I checked it on my phone and I looked at it and was like, “No. There’s no way!” I thought it was Miranda’s version, and then I realized that it was mine and I started crying. I couldn’t help it. It was amazing.

Did you take a screenshot?

Oh yeah. I have about 10 of them — when it went from 10 to 1. It was like boom, boom, boom within 40 minutes. I got it all on my phone.

What is it about this Michelle Branch song that really spoke to you?

I love Michelle Branch. I grew up listening to her and she’s a huge influence to me. I feel like this song had more of a dynamic that I needed the week after [my last] performance. It went from zero to 100, and I wanted something like that. I wanted something that had me singing softer and then the power of the full step up in my upper range. It also has a lot of attitude and I got to show my edgier side again. I was very delicate last week. Christina called me a Lotus, so I was like, “I want to come out there and be like a black rose. I want to come out there and rock it this time.”

Do you feel like you “sang the crap out of it” like Blake said you did?

I feel like I did. I don’t know. I was so in it that I’m not sure if it was my best vocal performance. I have no idea. I was having so much fun and the vibe from the crowd and the wind and everything … I just felt so cool. I don’t know if it was my best vocal performance, but I hope that I did sing the crap out of it.

But you had fun?

I did. I had so much fun! I just can’t help it. I have so much fun up there. It’s the best stage ever: the crowd goes insane and I’m singing for the four biggest artists out there.

Adam called you the frontrunner of the show. How was that to hear?

To hear Adam say that was a big deal because he’s not easy to please. I respect him a lot, so to get his approval is like, “Yes!” I do a little celebration inside. It’s kind of like how I am with Christina because I think that she is incredible and I grew up listening to her. Whenever she says something incredible, I also get the same way, so it means a lot. Big-deal people saying that you did a good job is pretty incredible.
