Nicholas David is a breath of fresh air in The Voice Season 3’s contestant pool. His old school, soulful flair, eccentric personality, and shaggy beard are unforgettable, and last night’s performance of Huey Lewis and the News’ “The Power of Love” was no exception.

But he wants to change up his style moving forward, excited to share his music and story with the world. When Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with the soul singer on the red carpet, he had plenty of inspiring words to share.

Wetpaint Entertainment: How do you feel about your standing in the show so far?

Nicholas David: I do feel good. When I play, I kind of open myself up as a vessel, so it's kind of hard to recall. It will take me a little bit to come back. This whole adventure never ceases to amaze me. All these turns and twists; I can't not be surprised. I go into every situation with an open mind and an open heart.

What do you hope your next performances will be like?

I really hope to be able to play the piano. I've been playing the piano for longer than I've been singing.

What drives you to continue to pursue music?

I've been told that my music has healing capabilities and I've been told that my story's inspiring. I honestly hope that message of healing and hope really will strike a chord in people's hearts and that it really inspires people to follow their dreams and to be themselves.
