Team Blake’s Terry McDermott makes classic rocks songs look effortless on The Voice, but when Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with the singer last night on the red carpet, he revealed his Bryan Adams tune was more of a challenge than American might assume.

Read on to see what Terry went through and his view on his coach, Blake Shelton.

Wetpaint Entertainment: You took “The Summer of ’69” and put your own Scottish spin on it. How do you feel about you rendition?

Terry McDermott: I thought it went very well. It went according to my plan. I’ve been fighting a chest cold all week, which has kind of knocked me down a little bit, so I must admit that it was a little touch and go over the last few days where I was a little bit worried — especially watching all these very talented people gear up towards their performances … But I kept the energy up, which is what I was mainly worried about tonight. I wasn’t sure after being sick if I’d be able to get out and do it, but I did, so I’m happy.

And you had a standing ovation from Blake. Was that an instant relief to get off stage and see that?

What can I say? For your coach to react like that, you know you’re doing something right. I’ve got to say Blake goes out of his way to make sure that we have everything that we need to work hard, and I know that me and Cassadee feel the same and we really want to represent him well. A standing ovation? That’s a great feeling!

Christina called you out tonight about standing on your tiptoes. Have you always done that? Where did you pick that up?

I have. I’ve never done it any other way. I think I might have picked it up from another front man over the years — you do watch other bands when you’re learning your trade. I must have picked it up from somebody. I don’t know. Maybe it’s instinctive. I have no idea.

If you make it big, you realize that people are going to copy that, right?

Well, that’s fine. If you get to that stage where people copy you, it means that you’re doing something right, so yes, please copy me!

It seemed like tonight you were giving Adam a little run for his money in the bromance department with Blake …

Well, I think the relationship that me and Blake have feels very strong to me. He feels very positive and what you don’t see behind the scenes is that he really is very concerned with our well-being and does his best to make sure that our concerns and voices are heard. He really is a very strong character and very caring toward us.

Do you think you guys will be buds after the show and hang out?

If I come out of drinking retirement after the show, I think that’s definitely going to happen.

You could still rock some soda water and sit on a bar stool with him.

Yeah, why not? It can be done!

Are you confident going into the results show tomorrow?

I’m not taking anything for granted. This is the single best show that I’ve seen on The Voice so far, and at this point, it’s anyone’s game. I certainly am not hedging any bets about whether I’m staying. This is up in the air.
