The Voice has yet to produce an artist with a No. 1 radio hit, but plenty of former contestants have used the show as a platform to jump start or revitalize their careers in entertainment. After a stint as a recording artist and performer on Broadway and the West End, Season 2 contestant Tony Vincent is now looking to make the move to television and film.
Wetpaint Entertainment sat down with the rocker in New York City to talk about his upcoming role on the new CW show, The Carrie Diaries.
Tony recently filmed Season 1's penultimate episode (Episode 12, set to air April 1, 2013), and offered up a juicy spoiler.
“I play this character who is basically the gatekeeper of a launch of the Madonna tour and this is a pre-tour party,” Tony revealed. “Carrie tries to get through with her boyfriend, Sebastian, and her name is on the list, but his name isn’t. So it just kind of gives this tension between the two of them. I guess it’s a big night where she feels she wants to do something for him.”
Carrie’s dating Sebastian?! Glad to see these two will finally get together.
As for the party’s “gatekeeper,” Tony was excited to work with the cast and looks forward to future opportunities in television.
“It’s something I want to move into,” he admitted. “With a child who was born [while I was on The Voice], it’s one of those things where I’m rethinking what the next steps are for me career wise. Doing some in television, especially if it’s shot here makes it easy for me to get back to my family. I’ve been wanting to get into straight acting a lot more than just being a singer on Broadway.”
While the change in venue can be a bit unsettling for a performer, Tony embraces the challenge and what the future has in store.
“Artistically, I’m excited to do something different, and I don’t want to repeat anything I’ve done before,” he said. “I purposefully avoided [TV], because it’s such a different style of acting. It’s a lot smaller, it’s much more intimate. The camera is seeing your eyelashes as opposed to an audience member who is in the 42nd row of the theater who can’t see what color your eyes are. But it would be silly for me to say no to any opportunity that would cause growth.”
