For those of you who watched last night’s premiere episode of Fox’s The Choice, we’re sorry you had to see that.

This reality dating show has been viewed by many as a blatant copy of NBC’s music competition The Voice. And last night’s episode was a childish slap in the face to fans of quality television.

Here’s why:

1) Spinning Chair Whiplash

On The Voice, the big red chairs the judges sit in face the audience during contestants’ blind auditions and turn around when a judge likes what he or she hears. After the blind auditions, the chairs stay pointed at the stage so that the judge can take in the entire performance.

Fox’s producers must have gotten a little trigger-happy on The Choice because the spinning mechanism was employed at every possible opportunity — when the judges took 10 seconds to think, when a judge made his final decision, when a judge sneezed (not really, but you get our point).

Despite what critics may think (we’re looking at you, Simon Cowell), the spinning chairs are not there as a gimmick. On The Voice, they serve a real purpose. On The Choice, they are a toy that seems to confuse Pauly D.

2) 15 Seconds of Fame

Even if you buy into TV dating shows (we’ll admit we're kinda-sorta obsessed with The Bachelorette), a show about finding love has to give its contestants some time to do so. The most ridiculous part of The Choice is the 15-second question round.

As the chairs spun like whirling dervishes, celebrity bachelors and their contestants were each given 15 seconds to ask each other questions in an attempt to get to know one another. Talk about true love.

3) 36-24-36

What makes The Voice so different is the element of surprise when each judge spins his or her chair around in the blind auditions. But on The Choice, no girl was above a size six, lacked makeup, had acne, was flat-chested, or even wore glasses.

Each judge turned his chair to beauty after beauty, some girls looking so similar we needed name tags (the show didn’t provide them and that confused Pauly D, too).
