When folk duo Midas Whale took to The Voice Season 4 stage tonight (March 26), the duo’s guitar player looked oddly familiar. It turns out that Jon Peter Lewis is the same Jon Peter Lewis who made it to Top 8 on Season 3 of American Idol.
The singer was infamously referred to as a “pen salesman” by judge Simon Cowell in his audition for the FOX reality show.
“Hey all. I auditioned for The Voice on NBC! Check it out on March 25th to see how I did. #thevoicemarch25,” he tweeted on February 25.
In Season 3 of Idol, Fantasia Barrino went on to win the title, but Jon never gave up his love of music.
But the big surprise is that Jon isn’t performing solo this time. He's teamed up with singer Ryan Hayes to create the folk duo Midas Whale.
Their rendition of Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues” convinced all four coaches to turn during the March 26 blind auditions. After some fierce lobbying from the panel, Midas Whale picked Adam Levine.
Duos notoriously struggle on The Voice, but perhaps Jon’s knowledge of reality competitions will help these two advance through the battle rounds, knockouts, and then through the live shows.
