In Team Adam’s final Knockout Round pairing, Melanie Martinez’s quirky style is on full display in a performance of La Roux’s “Bulletproof.” Blake’s comment seems to be more about her appearance than her voice when he says, “Watching Melanie is like watching a duo — oh there’s the blond one, oh there’s the brunette one.”
The crowd can feel Sam James’s classic soul in his rendition of Marc Cohn’s “Walking in Memphis.” He had a hard time pronouncing the word “Memphis” in rehearsal, but he pulls through with a heartfelt and moving performance.
Ultimately, Adam chooses Melanie for her unique and haunting voice that he says he’s “never heard before.”
