Tonight’s live show started off with some soul when Team Cee Lo’s Nicholas David sang the song Cee Lo had picked for him — Earth Wind & Fire’s “September.”

Since Cee Lo was under the weather, Train’s Pat Monahan stepped in to train the eclectic musician. The performance was filled with groovy vibes and psychedelic background dancers.

Coach Adam Levine liked the performance, but said he wanted to hear him sing more of the chorus. Blake Shelton joked, “I love that song and for the first time I actually got to hear what the words are.” He continued to admit he’d been dumb not to turn for Nicholas. But Christina wasn’t quick to give praise, saying she wanted to see Cee Lo change things up in the next round.

Cee Lo said he’d challenged Nicholas with this popular tune and said at the end of the day, “You’re still my Nick.”

With the new setup, fans can vote for their favorite contestants by calling in, voting on Facebook or NBC.com, texting (for Sprint users), or by buying their song on iTunes. If you liked Nicholas’s performance, be sure to vote at the end of the show!
