Watch Terry McDermott Sing Foreigner’s "I Want to Know What Love Is" on The Voice Season 3 Live Show, Dec. 3, 2012 (VIDEO)
Team Blake’s Terry McDermott thought of his mother as he sang Foreigner’s "I Want to Know What Love Is" on The Voice Season 3 live show tonight, Dec. 3, 2012.
The Scottish rocker toned down the classic tune, accompanied only by a piano and cello — or as his coach calls it, “a big violin thing” or “a Cee Lo” — as he sat in the middle of the stage. As usual, he crooned the song, but this time, it was with much more emotion, holding out each note with gusto. His rockin’ side still managed to come out, though — especially during the show-stopping chorus — and his performance was the most heartfelt we’ve seen to date.
He received a standing ovation from both his coach, Cee Lo, and Christina, and it caused the pop diva to claim that Blake has the “strongest team."
Cee Lo said the song “really moves” him, calling it a “strong” performance and commending Terry for keeping it together, in spite of his emotions. Adam agreed, saying, “That’s a tough one — especially to do it in a unique, cool way. Dude, you slayed it.”
Blake closed out the comments, saying, “We did the right thing,” and claiming, “That was unbelievable.”
With the new setup, fans can vote for their favorite contestants by calling in, voting on Facebook or NBC.com, texting (for Sprint users), or by buying their song on iTunes. If you liked Terry’s performance, be sure to vote at the end of the show!
