The Voice coach Adam Levine is literally paid to speak his mind, but we have a feeling his comments about the MTV Video Music Awards were a bit harsher than anything he’s ever said to any of his contestants.

Back in August 2011, the tattooed rocker took to Twitter to blast the popular awards show, saying, “the VMA's. one day a year when MTV pretends to still care about music. I'm drawing a line in the sand. f you VMA's.”

And Adam didn’t stop there. Following his controversial tweet, the singer spoke with E! News about MTV and the VMAs.

"It's public knowledge that it's not a music channel," he said. "It's become a huge promotional opportunity for artists, which is a good thing. I think that great artists were there and they were represented and there could have been more."
