Every time Christina Aguilera’s said goodbye to her eliminated contestants on The Voice this season, she’s recited the sad story of how she lost Star Search back in 1990 without batting a single glitter-covered eyelash.

The pop diva uses the story to encourage her young hopefuls who didn’t quite make it as far as they’d dreamed. But who did Xtina lose to all those years ago?

Back in 1990, the 9-year-old genie in a bottle lost to 12-year-old Christopher Eason. Xtina went on to superstardom, while Christopher became a barista in Oklahoma City, according to a new report from Inside Edition.

“Sometimes things just don’t work out the way that you planned,” Christopher said during his interview.

The little boy who beat Christina all those years ago is all grown up now, and he doesn’t have much to show for his Star Search win. Though he claims to still be a singer during his interview, Christopher’s official Facebook page is solely filled with videos and articles about Christina Aguilera, in which there are occasional references to his 1990 win.

Additionally, in the May 14, 2012 issue of the National Enquirer, Christopher was featured in a two-page interview titled “Christina’s Revenge” about life after Star Search.

Christina is currently coaching on the third season of hit music competition The Voice, recently released her seventh studio album, Lotus, and is preparing to tour in 2013.

Let that be a message to all you eliminated Voice contestants: Dreams can come true after the cameras stop rolling!
