Unlike other reality music competitions today, The Voice offers performers what can be their first or their fifth chance. This fact has been the cause of contention between American Idol judge Randy Jackson and Voice judge Adam Levine.
But for blind audition contestant Tony Lucca, it is a dream come true. Almost 21 years ago when the performer was 14 years old, he was a Mouseketeer in Disney’s Mickey Mouse Club — a show that debuted many of today’s top celebrities including Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, and Voice judge Christina Aguilera.
Tony stayed on the show for four seasons until it ended and he moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. He even dated fellow Mouseketeer Keri Russell. The teen performer was featured in a variety of commercials and some small films. In 1997, he left acting to follow his music.
His Mickey Mouse Club connection to Justin Timberlake earned him an opening spot on ‘N Sync’s tour in 2001 and 2002, soon after self-releasing his first two albums.
Tony has since produced several solo and collaborative albums, and has toured the country promoting his music. Last night, he performed on national television for The Voice judges and not only earned himself a spot on Team Adam, but also respect from all of the judges in a unanimous vote.
When Christina made a backstage visit to welcome Tony to the show, she casually mentioned, “Britney had the biggest crush on you!”
Well, we have to admit, we do too. What about you guys? Surprised to see a former Mouseketeer on the stage?
