In last night’s final episode of The Voice’s Season 3 premiere week, hippie singer Nicole Nelson blew everyone away with her rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.” Her pure, melodic sound inspired all four judges to turn and Christina Aguilera thanked the singer for “waking [her] up.”

Ultimately, Nicole went with judge Adam Levine, but what has this 34-year-old been up to before taking The Voice stage?

Nicole is a part of the duo Dwight & Nicole with guitar player and boyfriend Dwight Ritcher, which features “their fresh blend of spirited blues, rock & gospel.”

The duo has won a series of awards in Boston for their style and sound. They’ve shared the stage with The Avett Brothers, BB King, Norah Jones, Jimmy Buffett, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Buddy Guy.

Their music has also appeared on ABC’s The Forgotten.

The duo is currently preparing to release an album, which doesn’t bode well for Nicole’s future of the show. Additional music-based projects typically indicate a contestant didn’t advance past the pre-taped battle rounds, but we can’t imagine one of the coaches didn’t steal her if she did, indeed, lose.
