The Season 4 premiere of The Voice on March 25 introduced viewers to Vedo, a 19-year-old R&B star in the making! Taking the stage for the blind auditions with a killer rendition of Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend," Vedo proved he's got the chops (and dance moves!) to hold his own among today's top artists — and having Usher's seal of approval certainly doesn't hurt!
Vedo started singing at the age of 9 in his hometown of Benton Harbor, Mich. At 14, Vedo and his mother moved to Atlanta, Ga., where the young singer could take advantage of more performing opportunities. To this day, Vedo credits his mom for everything, which makes it even more heartbreaking to learn that she's currently battling stage IV cancer and has been given 2-6 months to live. Vedo had originally planned to skip his Voice audition to care for his ailing mother, but she insisted he pursue his passion. (Cue waterworks.)
Things really started taking off for Vedo in 2011, when he released his debut single "Traffic Jam" to favorable reviews. With more than 100,000 views on YouTube (and mostly all "likes"), Vedo clearly has an avid fanbase that will undoubtedly help him sail through the competition.
But Vedo doesn't need to rely on his popularity alone — he's got voice, the moves, and the look to back it all up. And with role models like Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, and Usher (of course), Vedo really can't go wrong.
The question is, will America think he's right?
