In the words of Christina Aguilera, “Team Cee Lo’s where it’s at.”
Sure, Adam Levine’s contestant Javier Colon may have won last season on The Voice, but Cee Lo’s contestants are dominating this season’s competition.
“Red 'til I’m dead,” as Mr. Green says.
Tonight’s elimination won’t be anything surprising. Though Cheesa definitely proved that she deserved a spot in this competition singing Whitney Houston last night, she’s no match for Juliet Simms or Jamar Rogers.
Both contestants have killer vocals and highly marketable looks. Not only is Cheesa not particularly memorable, but her voice lacks the control the others possess.
The truly painful elimination will come will come next week when we’ll be forced to decide between Jamar and Juliet.
While Team Adam’s contestants are significantly weaker, they will make tonight’s show vastly more interesting, because it’s not easy to predict who will be headed home.
Though she was in the bottom three two weeks ago, Katrina Parker definitely gave the strongest Team Adam performance last night singing “Jar of Hearts.” Unfortunately, she doesn’t have the strong fan backing of Tony Lucca, so she may not be safe from tonight’s elimination.
Mathai also had a strong performance last night, but cutting her wouldn’t be a major loss. Though his rendition of “...Baby One More Time” was billed as “shocking” and “game changing,” Tony’s performance was underwhelming.
Nothing he did was particularly impressive, and the song selection seemed more of a publicity stunt than one meant to show off his vocal talents. He deserves to go home tonight, but his popularity could keep him safe another week or two.
If the contest is between Katrina and Mathai, it really will come down to their last chance song selection. Katrina has more experience in this department, but Mathai has a stage presence that can’t be denied.
