When Christina Aguilera originally announced that she’d be leaving The Voice this spring to promote her upcoming album, Lotus, we were concerned that the pop diva would never publicly fight with Adam Levine again.

But the “Beautiful” singer quickly quelled our fears in her interview with Billboard Magazine.

“I’ll probably be back,” she told the publication. “I just need to do my thing for a minute, then I can come back and be that much better of a coach. I just need a second to get back to me.”

But Access Hollywood caught up with the singer at the 2012 AMA Nominee announcement, and she seemed to be singing a different tune.

“We’ll see where everything goes,” she said. “But I definitely know that I have to step away from it for a second so that I can regenerate my own artistry and get back to what my ultimate love is.”

What?! As much as we support Christina’s music (we wouldn’t be the women we are today without it), it’s hard enough knowing that she’ll be off the show for an entire season.

Is she now indicating that her “leave of absence” is a permanent departure? Tell us what you think below!
