Last night, NBC dropped a bomb when the network announced that R&B singer Usher, and Colombian pop singer Shakira would be replacing Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera in the spring 2013 season of The Voice.

It’s long been rumored that the four current celebrity coaches have been feeling the need to take a break from the reality show to further their own musical careers. In fact, it was country singer Blake Shelton who’s been the most vocal about his desire to leave.

But Blake and Adam Levine are still set to return in the spring, while Christina and Cee Lo will be MIA to work on their own projects.

Though Blake, Adam, Christina, and Cee Lo are considered the four core judges, temporary replacements will come in as the musicians need them to keep the big red chairs warm while their “official” owners are away.

At this point, Christina and Cee Lo are set to return for the fall 2013 season, but looking ahead, it’s all about the new appointees Usher and Shakira.

And these stars are definitely worthy of their red thrones. Usher has won seven Grammys and 20 Billboard Music Awards. The singer has had numerous hit singles and is often credited for discovering the pop sensation that is Justin Bieber (talk about coaching).

Additionally, Shakira has won two Grammys and eight Latin Grammys. She has her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and has recorded famous duets with Beyonce and Lady Gaga (battle rounds, anyone?).

Though it will be hard to leave behind the greatness that is Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green this spring, we’re excited for what Usher and Shakira will bring to the table.

What do you think? Will Usher and Shakira make strong coaches on The Voice? Vote below!
