Bet you didn’t know … Jewel learned to yodel singing in Alaskan bars and taverns
Jewel has been a top American singer-songwriter since the mid ‘90s. She has received four Grammy Awards and has sold more than 27 million albums worldwide.
Her first album, Pieces of You, became one of the top-selling debut albums of all time and went 15 times platinum. This singer has crossed the genres of pop and country releasing her first country album, Perfectly Clear, in 2008.
The singer has released six pop albums, one country album, and two children’s albums. She has also produced a book of poetry called A Night Without Armor and her autobiography Chasing Down the Dawn.
Jewel has played herself on various TV shows including 7th Heaven, Las Vegas, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, and America’s Got Talent: The Finale.
Taking her talents outside the recording studio, Jewel has put forth numerous philanthropic efforts working with the Children’s Defense Fund, Higher Ground For Humanity, Stop Breast Cancer For Life, and Project Clean Water.
To win a bet against her husband, Ty Murray, Jewel was originally a contestant on the eighth season of Dancing With the Stars. But after suffering stress fractures in the tibia of both legs, she was forced to withdraw before the show aired.
She has also been a guest judge for American Idol, and a host and judge for the show Nashville Star (where fellow mentor Miranda Lambert got her big break).
Last year, Jewel was a host and judge on the Bravo show Platinum Hit, which featured 12 singer-songwriters competing to write hit songs. Jewel will bring her judging expertise to Team Christina on this season of The Voice.
