Like many Voice contestants before him, singer-songwriter Kris Thomas comes from a gospel background. This Tennessee native literally grew up in the church (his father is a pastor), and he was blessed to find his calling at a young age. Kris performed publicly for the first time at the age of 14, an experience that was supposed to be a form of punishment. Kris was caught laughing at some of the other kids during choir rehearsal and was forced to sing solo to learn his lesson. How's that for irony!
Kris went on to join the Stax Music Academy and become the lead vocalist of Street Corner Harmonies, performing at various events throughout Memphis, and even continued performing while obtaining his undergraduate degree.
Kris was lucky enough to land a record deal at one point, but it ended up falling through — a loss that sent him into a deep depression. Kris turned to alcohol, and one fateful evening he crashed his car into someone's home. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but now Kris is sober and dedicated to getting his life back on track.
On his Facebook page, Kris lists his influences as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, and Donnie Hathaway, just to name a few.

Kris shocked the coaches when he sang Whitney Houston's "Saving All My Love For You," a song typically out of a man's range. Shakira was the only coach to turn for him, but the others soon realized they missed out.
“You’re a dude!” Usher exclaimed when his chair turned at the end of the performance.
“I wish I knew you were a guy,” Adam said.
Sorry boys! This soulful singer will continue in the competition as a member of Team Shakira.
