Bet you didn’t know…
While attending the Las Vegas Academy, Ne-Yo adopted the nickname “GoGo” and joined an R&B group called Envy.

Beginning his career as a songwriter, Ne-Yo penned the hit “Let Me Love You” for singer Mario. He soon learned that his true passion was in performing and in 2006 released his first album, In My Own Words.

The album produced hit singles “So Sick” and “Sexy Love.” In the next three consecutive years, Ne-Yo produced albums Because of You, Year of the Gentleman, Ne-Yo: The Collection, and Libra Scale. He is currently working on his fifth studio album The Cracks in Mr. Perfect, which is set to come out early this year.

Ne-Yo won “Best Contemporary R&B Album” at the 2008 Grammy Awards for Because of You, and “Best Male R&B Vocal Performance” and “Best R&B Song” at the 2009 Grammy Awards for his hit “Miss Independent” (no relation to fellow mentor Kelly Clarkson’s hit single by the same name).

In addition to his solo work, Ne-Yo has written songs for Rihanna, Beyonce, Leona Lewis, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Carrie Underwood, Anastacia, Ciara, Corbin Bleu, Enrique Iglesias, and was contacted to work on what would have been Michael Jackson’s new album, but never made it past the writing stage before Jackson’s death in 2009.

Ne-Yo has also acted in the films Save the Last Dance 2, Stomp the Yard, Battle: Los Angeles, and the recent George Lucas film Red Tails.

He will be joining Team Cee Lo as a mentor on this season’s The Voice.
