X Factor Top 5 Girl Drew Ryniewicz

UPDATE - Drew was eliminated on December 1st.  Here's why we thought she had a chance.

Drew, 14, was an obvious front-runner from the start. Her audition performance, a stripped-down take on Justin Bieber’s “Baby,” showed not only her relevance to current music, but also a nice dose of creativity. Add in her silky-sweet vocals and all-American prettiness, and you’ve got yourselves a contender, folks!

Drew’s Top 17 performance, a soulful take on “What A Feeling” was also a standout. She was easily the best of the Girls, and sailed through to the Top 12. Simon obviously loves her, and he seems to have the right idea of how best to present her to the audience, which will definitely help. Talent + presentation = success!

The other thing working in Drew’s favor was her youth. Last season on American Idol, the Top 2 consisted of a couple of high school students. If lots of teen girls (and not just country music fans) were voting for Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery, which they probably were, it stands to reason that they’d vote for Drew as well. While Rachel Crow is also a young teen, she actually reads as younger than she is. While Rachel seems more like a normal 13-year-old girl, Drew comes across as one that girls their age would look up to, which might have given her an advantage.

Alas! We shall follow her career with great interest.
